Introduction

We are an active group within the local area ranging roughly from Weston-super-Mare to Central Bristol and across towards the A38 and down to Junction 22 of the M5. This is, however, not a fixed area, and anyone wishing to attend our meetings and take part in our work is warmly welcomed.

We work closely with other local groups to co-ordinate our plans for conservation, monitoring and socialising;

we have fun in all we do!

We have regular meetings over the winter period on the 3rd Monday of each month. These include talks from wildlife related topics, Owl Prowls led by Chris Sperring MBE, our Conservation Officer, and other walks led by members of the Trust.

We also take part in summer events where you will find us exhibiting at local agricultural shows, church/village/charity sponsored events and fetes.

For the more hardy types we have several management roles in conjunction with local land owners, and not forgetting work parties on our newly acquired reserve at Shapwick More (4th Sunday in each Month – weather permitting).

Winter Meetings

Our meetings are held at the Ship Inn, Portishead starting at 8 pm, on the third Monday of each month.

The pub is on the corner of Down road and Hillside (BS20 8LF), a few minutes from the Police HQ in Valley Road.

We start in October and conclude with our AGM (group) in April each year.

 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We meet at the Natural England Avalon Car Park (known to most as the Willows Café, which is closed for refurbishment currently) at 9.45am and you can stay as long as you can. Everyone is most welcome to come along and help; we value everyone, from those with gardening experience to anyone able to help with heavier type woodland working, and everything in between!

We are currently planting hedges, clearing ditches and coppicing, as well as surveying (birds, insects, plants and habitat). Please contact Les Piper for more details.

Are You On E-mail?

It is impossible for the group to post out details of every event as they crop up. Short notice opportunities often occur, but these can only be sent out to those members on e-mail. So, please advice us if you have e-mail by sending a note to Les_5198@yahoo.co.uk that way, we can keep you in touch with ALL activities and you won’t miss out on anything!!

Unless stated all meetings and field trips are open to everyone so please come along and I'm sure you will be inspired to join us!

Some activities and walks may be unsuitable for young children or those with walking difficulties, but if unsure please contact Les for advice.

There are Hawk and Owl Trust Local Groups in many areas of the UK, and others in the south west.  For more details click HERE to visit the Trust's website.
